I see a lot of questions being asked by kids doing homework on various types of math questions. However, it seems like they're getting the answer without having to do the work. Won't this stunt their ability to learn math?

Good question.

No, we shouldn't be giving them the maths answers, or any answers for homework. I myself am a high school student, and i know how important it is that you understand the formula. Alot of people are just asking the questions in the hope of an answer, but if they never learn how to do it, then they will fail, and fall behind everyone else.

And i think the people giving them the answers, are just trying to get a few lousy points on this thing.

No. They should be doing their own homework. This is particularly important when it comes to math. Each concept builds on the previous concepts. You can't skip any of it and still learn the subject.

    I agree.
I see a lot of people post questions on here that would give them answers to the work they're supposed to be doing.
The way I look at it, they end up losing in the end becasue they should have paid attention and learned instead of just getting the answer, but whatever.
People keep asking and people keep answering

I don't think we should answer ANY question when it's clear that the only reason it's being asked here is in hopes somebody will do all the work so the student won't have to. I make it a practice to never reply to "homework help" questions. That's why kids have teachers.

As long as we give an explanation along with the answer, I don't see any problem with it.

If you just flat out tell them the numerical answer, then that is probably not helpful. But giving them an explanation of how to do the problem could be helpful if they don't yet understand how to do the problem.

I don't think that they should give the answer to the kids. It would help them much more if they explain how to figure out how to get to the answer.

Yes, I would imagine that giving them the answer will hinder them. BUT, some people do point out formulas. I was not the greatest math student, I would have really appreiciated some help like this when I was a kid.

well, if they're stupid enough not to know it, then they need help.
when I answer such questions, I always include an explanation so they get how to do it themselves.

Yes and no. It depends on their age, and how well they have been taught and/or grasped the concept.
With my son, who is only seven, I need to talk him through sometimes and show him the steps to get to the answer.
I don't do this with every question, but expect him to work his way through after my initial guidance.
