I'm an amateur radio operator and a truckdriver. Each week I send postcards to 3 gradeschool classes explaining the different things I haul, the places I go to, and about being a truckdriver. And little known facts about the truck I drive.
I also listen to shortwave radio broadcasts to hear what's going on in other countries.

Why not send some trivia questions related to just those topics to their teachers. They can make finding the answers bonus questions. Another idea would be to tell them where you are and where you are going. See if they can figure out the route you will take, sites you will see, states, towns, or cities you will pass through, and at x speed, how long it will take to get there.
