Get him started doing math puzzles. Buy a puzzle book or make some up for him. Be sure you make the first ones easy enough for him to do so he begins with some success. He will tell you if they are too easy, so err on that side to begin with.
Give him logic problems, riddles, arithmetic problems and puzzles; anything that will challenge his logical thinking.
Once he finds out he can solve some of the problems, he will start enjoying it.

Try using real money. Have him/her count it, use it to pay made up bills, count the change etc.

Maybe associate it with things she/he likes to do. Like, maybe he/she likes to play soccer. you could go and play with him/her and ask what shape is on the soccer ball? or what makes a soccer ball go? Just ask him/ her questions that has to do with something he/she likes to do.

    Good Luck!

I remember math… it was soooo boring until I made a game out of it. I also had friends with me. what we did was we asked a math question, if you didn't answer it correctly or didn't answer it at all, you had to tell a secret no one knew.

I agree with making it relate to things the child may like. Art, cooking, sports, etc. Also try computer games.

Please! Fun is not the right word. Mathematics is the basis of most mental skills. Future employment and life style will depend on a student having a mastery of mathematics. Parents need to present student with 'progressive lessons'. That is, basic skills before advanced ones. The internet is 'awash' with such lessons. Math will become 'fun' once the student has demonstrated success at it.
