I think a great way to make math fun is to tie it back to every day life. Use real world examples of how measurement, fractions, mathematical problems, algebra, etc. are used in everyday life.     There are many ways that you could make 5th grade math fun. You could make games, or buy games (board games, computer games,) or you could make up games on the whiteboard. You could also have contests like who can finish this many problems faster and things like that.

    Around the World.

    Start off with one student, on one side of the classroom. Have him or her stand behind the person next to them. Then you ask a math question that they should be able to do (or know, like times tables). Whoever answers the question first and correctly, continues the game. That means, if the first student who went to stand behind the person next to them got the question right, then they stand behind the next person in line (however the desks in your room flow). If that person loses, then they go sit back in their seat and the person who won stands up and moves behind the person sitting next to them.
