I want to keep her interested and happy while teaching her math, so that I can get the informationto her …but most importantly, I want her to see it as "fun" or at least something like it (she gets distracted easily liek most kids her age!).
So if you could either tell me an easy method of explanation for math, or some kidn of fun way to teach her maht, that would be great!

A first-grader probably thinks of math as just boring workbooks with numbers in them. I'd suggest the best way to get her interested in math would be to subvert her.

Ask her to help out with things while shopping or cooking. How much money does it take to buy these two things? Do we have enough? How much change should we get back? If this meal takes 35 minutes to prepare, what time will it be done? How many cups make a quart? How many glasses of milk can we get from a half-gallon?

You might also try introducing math through arts and crafts… sorting, counting, and adding beads… symmetry and shapes in painting or coloring… and while you're sitting at your computer, there are plenty of games online, such as the Math Arcade at Funbrain. http://www.funbrain.com/brain/MathBrain

See if you can't slip in some math regarding whatever other interests she has. If she likes horses, you could help her convert hands to feet and inches. If she likes music, you could show how math is involved in rhythms… beats per measure or eighth-notes per quarter-note. If you looked into it, you'd be hard-pressed to find anything in which math isn't involved.

Once she sees the usefulness of math and starts to have fun with it, you both should be in good shape for her future learning.

When I was younger my mom used my toys and books. She said I have 5 books if a monster ate two of the five books how many will be left and I knew the answer.

Keep whatever lessons you do to short spurts 5 minutes or less. Find something she is interested in and relate that to the math involved. (ie; if she likes cooking help her to measure and add ingredients)

You have to make it fun for her and she has to see your enthusiam to get excited about the learning aspect. There are also some simpler computer programs that my nieces love that teaches math concepts for the necessary age range.

COUNT CANDY!!!!!!!!!!!! your child will enjoy getting the treats after she answered the question correctly. i would suggest that you switch the different types of candy. for example, if if's a hard problem, give her a few of her favorite candy, but if its not that hard and you are just reviewing it, give her a different kind of candy so she doesn't get bored of the other one. I would recommend m&ms and skittles. they are small so she won't be eating loads of candy.

    good luck ♥

Use candy like m&ms to show out the math or show an equation. If the get the equation right they get the m&ms.Also try thinking up fun games like memory and relate it to math. They have to find an equation and the answer together to form a match.Get creative. Mabey ask the kids if they have any ideas.Dont forget to have fun with it!!
