    It’s not where did …
It’s not where did the other dollar go, it’s where did the other 3 go. The 27$ is 25 hotel 2 bellhop. The remaining 3 are in their pockets.

  2. tattiballs says:

    they paid 25 …
they paid 25 dollars. the bellhop was given 5 dollars. 1+1+1 for the three guests and 2 dollars for the bellhop. 25+3+2=30

  4. love2climb916 says:

To add the $2 to …
To add the $2 to the total of $27 to come up with $29 is fallacious because the $2 is included in the total outlay from each guy. You cant say they each only paid $9 but ALSO gave the bellhop the $2 tip (he took it rather than was tipped but this is irrelevant). The hotel refunds them $3, and gives $2 to the bellhop. The hotel in this case keeps $25, $2 goes to the bellhop, and $3 back into the patrons pockets. The $27 expense is allocated as, $25 to the hotel and $2 to the bellhop

  5. goodmanMD520 says:

    when you multiply …
when you multiply the 9×9x9 to equal 27, you then subtract (not add) the 2 dollars that went to the bellhop to arrive at the $25 that the hotel has

  6. beaboyy says:

    =30 of amount – 3 …
    =30 of amount – 3 reimbursementpaid= 27
    27-2(of what bellhop has)
    =25 cost of room

    There’s no algebra …
There’s no algebra needed here…just think logically.

    Bellhop obviously has 2
Cashier has 25 (after giving 5 back)
The men have a total of 3 dollars

The men paid 27 dollars. The bellhop has 2 of that, and the cashier has 25. Simple as that.

He tries to confuse you by having you add the 27 that the men paid to the 2 that the bellhop has, when you should actually be subtracting that to result in 25, the amount the cashier has.
