A Child Is Injured in an Accident Mind Puzzle?

a child is injured in an accident and rushed to the hospital. the doctor takes one look and says i can't treat you, that's my son. the doctor is not the child's father. How do you explain this.

the doctor is the child's mother…too much conditioning in our society to immediately picture the doc as a man!
